THU THIEM New Urban Area, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Competition 2008

Work for Woodhead Architects. Thu Thiem is a new urban area in Ho Chi Minh City – formerly Saigon. The subject of this competition was to design the Central Plaza and the Crescent Park on the bank of Saigon River as well as the Pedestrian Bridge over it. We started from determining the most vital and interesting directions and axes in the master plan and on this basis begun to fold the substance and thus create forms corresponding to established directions emerging from the ground. This way we created the two bridges, sculpted the Plaza and the buildings of Central Station and Post Office.
Design team: David Holm, Wei Yee Teng, Briedy Amahr, Rachel Vant, Michael Chaplin.
