OLIWA, Gdansk, Poland. Business Case 2003

Work for Proconcept. This small complex of two buildings was designed on a parcel of an old, unused pre-school, where low level residential function was restored. Secure underground parking and property enclosure were in the brief. Oliwa is an old suburb of Gdansk, where the Battle of Oliwa took place in 1627 between Polish and Swedish navy. It was the last Polish naval battle, victorious this time, which ended Polish–Swedish War. No hard feelings boys! Design wise, elements of symmetry were used as a reference to the character of historic buildings in this area. Design team: Marcin Kaniewski, Kuba Goralski, Bartek Borkowski, Hubert Schneider.
