LAMK, Kaszubia, Poland. 2011

Little river cottage. The land is surrounded by a large bend of a creek, where I used to catch pikes as a child. The house blends with unique vegetation and also meets strict council requirements as to the size and form of the building. The shell utilises wooden cargo pallets housing timber structure inside. Poplar shakes sourced in eastern Poland clad the entire envelope. Energy efficiency is of high importance, so double glazed windows expose polished concrete floor to the sun in winter, efficient fireplace co-works with partial floor heating and substantial insulated thermal mass accumulates the heat in the winter and keeps the cottage cool in the summer.
