CLOUD WALL, Sydney International Airport, T1. Completed 2010

Work for Woodhead Architects. The Cloud Wall is an oval-shaped concourse in the centre of lash retail area in Sydney's international departures. The concept was to create an effect of flying through the clouds. The bulkhead extending to the skylight above was shaped especially for this effect, it would otherwise look too heavy. We selected an image of clouds, pixelated it severely, stretched length-wise, and based the pattern of wall paneling upon that.
This pattern of wall panelling has also been utilised at the adjacent Bifurcation Wall.
